Masters Rowing 29 - beyond

Masters compete in three different divisions and in various sub-catogeries allowing for time correction for age handicapping giving all participents a fair chance. there are a few regatta's that host masters events which then culminate at the South African Rowing Championships. This line-up coupled with several touring and head events like Durban's Head of the Bay and the Long Row on the Vaal  make for a well passed and full calendar of pleasant rowing. Viking Rowing Club is one of the few South African clubs that has regularily participated at the World Masters Regatta's If you have ever rowed before and would love to get back into a boat, then give us a call and book your seat.

Social & Touring Rowing

Senior rowing is most competitive at this stage and is where selection is done for international competition. However, this is also the most challenging period for any oars person. Rowers are either very busy at university setting up their future or having just qualified, trying to establish theis working careers along with setting up house and home. In this modern day and age, there just doesn't seem to be time for anything, though one always needs to set some time aside for R&R. With our close proximity to the city centre, early morning, midday and even late afternoon outings are quite possible. Ironically its this category of rowing we most with to build. Most of the clubs boats are rigged for sculling and so is well suited for  individuals or crews to get an outing within an hour. Seldom is there a case of too few bow siders or too few stroke siders to make up a crew. sculling ensures all an outing in any combination. there you have it, 60 min / 6 laps and you can be on your way. about as much time you spent in the gym.
